Kathy Meneghin: Fabulous trip to Kaby Lodge

Thank you Watsons Kaby Lodge for providing a fishing/hunting destination for those with gluten sensitivity. The meals were wonderful with fabulous desserts and there were even GF cookies and breads in the shore lunch every day. It was the best vacation that I've had in over fifteen years because I didn't worry about the dietary challenges. Kathy Meneghin

Cody Yates: Fishing With Friends and Family

DAY 1 After fishing in the evening on the lake with pole in hand, I went up to the cabin. Going into the cabin I grabbed my OFF and sprayed it on me. After I got my OFF on, I went down to the point with my fishing pole and orange hook with a twister tail on it. Then I thought I'm not going to catch anything as there had been people fishing there for 2 hours without much success. While Adam was starting the campfire, I went down to the rock. I cast it out 4 times without any luck. Then on the very 5th cast I got a fish. At first, I thought it was a snag, because there were so many rocks down there. I let the pole loose for a few seconds to make sure it was a fish, and as i did that the fish took off with the line. Then I knew it was a fish. I reeled in fighting the big fish thinking it was a pike. And then for one moment, I saw it was a huge walleye. Then it took off with the line. While I was reeling in, I yelled "Dad, it's a huge walleye. Go get the new." And then Adam came down and grabbed the fish by the gill. While the fish was jumping in his hands I knew he was thinking that he should have stayed there for a little bit longer. The fish ended up being mounted. A whole 29 inches long and 9 pounds. DAY2 After getting back from cleaning the fish, I went back down to the rock. I didn't have a pole so the chef let me borrow his. After three casts, I saw Cabel's pole bend next to me. When he pulled out the fish, we saw it was a pike. After the pike was gone and taken to the fishing station, I went right back to fishing. I cast out about 3 or 4 more times with no0 luck. Then Adam moved to a different spot. I then cast over where Adam had been. But then my brother, Colton, said "you have to be in the exact same spot Adam was." So after I moved over and cast eight more times, I finally got a fish. I reeled in thinking it was a pike. Then I noticed when it came up, it was another walleye. I was in disbelief. After getting the fish up,the chef told me that his pole had been broken three times with plenty of Duct tape holding it together.  This walleye was 27 inches long and weighed 6 pounds.

On this trip I had a tremendous fishing experience with my family and friends.

Kathie Crabtree: Our week at Kaby

We(my husband, sister and I) spent our annual 7 days at Kaby the end of June. We really lucked out! It was warm (never put on a sweat shirt) and oh, the fish. 871 fish later-you read that correctly-we were still talking about the fabulous luck we had had, how big the fish were, how wonderful the weather had been and what a wonderful time we had enjoyed. We realized that this only happens once in a lifetime but for us that week, it was wonderful! Kathie

Tom and Michel: This week at the lodge

Hello from Kaby! We have had a very busy summer so far with lots of not so good weather but lots of fabulous fishing! It is so great to see our guests old and new. The biggest pike on the wall of fame so far is 47 1/2 inches long, caught by Derek Sheppard and the biggest walleye is 29 1/2 inches long, caught by Trevor McEnroe. A newcomer to the lodge Nancy Caven has so far captured and is having mounted her 14 inch yellow perch! Way to go1 Everyone is inspired by the size of the fish being caught this year and the biggest complaint we have is that it is sometimes hard to catch the under 18 inch walleye for shorelunch! Tom and I feel this is a pretty good complaint to have! For those of you who could not get back to us this year, Mama Fox did not make it through the winter, but we do see her grown kits on the back beaches and bays so hopefully one of them will decide to make Kaby their home next summer. We have lots of bears around and have had a few issues with them coming into camp on occasion. If you see any of the Baumgart Party, just ask them what I mean! All in all it has been a good first year for ownership of Kaby and we cannot thank our loyal friends and guests enough for the support they have shown us. It is wonderful to see all of you and to meet the new faces that are choosing to come "home" for their fishing holiday at Kaby Lodge, "where the fishing catches you!"
