As if You Needed a Reason to Like Fishing…

castingFishing is a great way to relieve stress. Whether in a boat offshore, it allows you to spend time in the great outdoors, breathing fresh air and taking it all in. Your surroundings in the wilderness create a soothing soundtrack relaxing your senses for hours on end. Relaxing in this capacity is proven to improve mental health.

In addition to mental health, fishing can also improve physical health. As an alternative to sitting by the pool or lounging on the couch, fishing is an active way to spend a few hours or a whole day. Hiking to the right spot, throwing out your fishing line and even pulling in a 3 pound catfish work muscles in the body and burn calories along the way.

Also spending time fishing with the ones you are close to can also improve relationships. Father and sons spending a day fishing can find things in common and enjoy the comradery. But all different relationships can blossom from fishing. Fishing even helps maintain wildlife, in a rather roundabout way. That’s because when fisherman pay permit fees and accompanying taxes, they are actually helping contribute to the environment and wellbeing of nature. Fishing during the correct season directly affects the overabundance of fish in bodies of water.

While some people fish just for the fun of it, you could also fish for your lunch or dinner. Spend the day doing something you enjoy, and put food on the table for your family. Fish caught in the wild are high in protein and low in fat, making for a healthy addition to any meal as the entrée or a side dish. Bringing home dinner can also give new fishers, especially young children, a great sense of accomplishment and encouragement.

Taking these five reasons into account, do you feel like going fishing? Grab a group of friends, or your children for a day of fun, active bonding that helps you personally as well as the environment. There are too many benefits to fishing to not enjoy it as an activity.
