Moose hunting is one of the many great reasons to plan a vacation, and it can be a fun activity. No matter how many years you’ve been hunting, or whether or not you’ve ever hunted moose before, you will walk away happy with the entire experience. However, successfully tracking, finding, and shooting a moose will always make a hunting trip better.
If this is your first moose hunt, or even if you’ve gone out before, you may want to start by focusing on one area. Use your surroundings to determine the location of any nearby moose, but don’t spread yourself too thin by trying to cover a large amount of ground. This is especially true if you aren’t even sure in which general direction any moose are located.
In order to increase your odds of actually finding a moose on your hunt, you should focus on areas that are near food and water sources. Also, during the breeding period cows tend to stay near ponds and larger bodies of water, so it may be a good place to start if you’re having trouble. Additionally, you should use the wind to your advantage. Figure out which way it is blowing to ensure it isn’t blowing your scent towards any potential targets.
One other tip to keep in mind is that if you spot a moose near the end of the day, you may want to come back and leave it for the morning. Hunting at night can be dangerous, but moose don’t tend to move after sunset. If you don’t scare it away and come back early enough, it may still be there the next day.
With these tips in mind, you should have no problem enjoying your next moose hunting vacation!
